Comeback kings Liphook United overcome Moneyfields Reserves with late rally

Eleven is heaven for the Blues.

That is how many times Carl Harris’ men have come from behind to pick up all three points this season after their 3-1 win over strugglers Moneyfields Reserves.

Harris said his squad’s character has allowed Liphook to have the chance of winning the Hampshire Premier League.

Former Portsmouth midfielder Stan Bridgemen’s low drive saw Moneys take the lead inside half an hour.

Charlie Carmichael came close to extending their shock lead over Liphook but Ryan Angear’s header saw Moneys punished.

Bridgemen had another chance to regain the lead but his curling effort was denied by the woodwork.

Liphook had an opportunity of their own to sneak ahead just before the break after a combination by Andy Coulson and Billy Allcock resulted in Freddie Funon making a fairly comfortable save.

Liphook had opportunities to take the lead they deserved with Marco Sellitto and Max Bray striking wide in quick succession before Elliott Turnbull’s volley for Moneys was also off-target.

Substitute Marcus Bedford’s header was directed off-target after he latched on a delivery by Harry Rolfe.

But Bedford was on target shortly afterwards as he netted his second league goal of the season – Liphook finally getting their deserved lead.

A few minutes later the blues extended their advantage with a loose ball finding an unmarked Sellitto on the edge of box, who curled his effort into the top-left corner.

Club top goalscorer Allcock and Maltese forward Luca Theuma had chances late on but both struck off-target.

Defeat for Moneyfieds Reserves dented their chance of survival as they sit five points adrift of fellow strugglers Hayling United – however, they do have two games in hand.

The Bugs will take on Moneys next week in which could decide the fate of both clubs.

Liphook to be crowned Champions?

Saturday afternoon could see Liphook become winners of the Hampshire Premier League for the first time since 2012.

A win on Saturday against rock bottom Fleet Spurs will see Harris win the league with both first and reserve side in recent years.

Long league leaders Infinity have surrendered a place at the top of the table at the final hurdle, with Rich Bassey’s men potentially dropping down to second for the first time since late-October.

But what is next for Moneyfields Reserves?

Moneys will host Hook at King George Cosham on Saturday morning.

A tough few weeks ahead could see Moneyfields Reserves relegated, despite challenging for the league title two years ago.

Truckell hat-trick sees Fareham humiliate Petersfield ahead of semi-final clash

A heavily rotated Petersfield Town have ended the season on a massive low as Fareham Town swept past the Rams 5-1 at Cams Alders last night – which saw the Creeksiders net four goals inside 35 minutes.

Petersfield certainly should have taken an early lead just inside three minutes. Callum Glen picked out Austen Giles, who was through on goal, but keeper George Bonney palmed away the close-range shot. But a combination between Connor Underhill and Elliot Holmes on the left found an unmarked Jamie Truckell lurking at the back post who fired the Creeeksiders ahead.

Fareham controlled the majority of the first-half with a carbon-copy of the first goal with Truckell striking his second of the game moments later.

Just five minutes afterwards, Fareham extended their advantage to three goals. Underhill and Jack Breed link-up well, which allowed Holmes to test his luck from range but his effort was denied by the post. Fortunately it rebounded right to the feet of Truckell, who found himself with a tap-in for his hat-trick. Four shots, three goals for the Creeksiders.

Fareham added another four mintutes later when a sweetly-struck free-kick from Jamie Hosking on the edge of the box curled into the top-left corner.

HT: Fareham Town 4-0 Petersfield Town

Just eight minutes after the restart, Fareham made it five. Hosking found the back of the net from another free-kick – a mirror of his earlier strike.

Jo Houldsworth scored a late consolation for the Rams. The 16-year-old, who made his first senior start against Cowes Sports just two days earlier, netted past Bonney.

What is next for both sides?

Wessex Premier League action is over for Petersfield Town. But, the Rams have a chance to make the final of the Portsmouth Senior Cup on Thursday when they host Royal Navy FA at the Southdowns Builders Stadium.

Whereas for Fareham, however, they are back into action on Thursday night against Andover New Steeet – the first time they have had a two day break since the start of the month. This will be one of three games in the space of six days.

Record crowd see West’s late header earn Yachtsmen a draw against Petersfield

Despite Ollie West’s late header with seven minutes to go, Cowes Sports have ended their season with a winless run of eight games.

Cowes have not won a game since mid-March, which was a 4-0 victory over Laverstock & Ford.

Petersfield Town took an early-lead through youngster Alex Hulme capitalising on a defensive mistake and slotting past keeper Edward Hatt to put the Rams ahead inside 20 minutes.

Chad Cornwell and Jo Houldsworth, who made his first start for Petersfield, came close to extending the lead just before half-time.

HT: Petersfield Town 1-0 Cowes Sports

Cowes controlled a majority of the second-half, but struggled to create chances.

As the action got back underway late on, after Cam Smith was forced off with injury, the Yachtsmen were level. A cross from the left was met by an unmarked West, who found the top corner.

FT: Petersfield Town 1-1 Cowes Sports

Petersfield Town manager Connor Hoare told WINOL after Saturday’s draw: “We looked much more of a better attacking threat today than we have in the last few weeks. We were on top and we were really pleased at half-time, but second-half they started to take control of the half.”

Assistant manager Callum Glen said: “I was disappointed with second-half performance. I thought we were excellent, the message at half-time was to repeat what we did in the first-half and we did not for whatever reason.

“If we want to be what we want to be next season we need to perform better, we lacked being clinical today. But, I thought Alex Hulme up-top and Jo [Houldsworth[, who is 16, both made their first start for the club and did well – their is plenty of positives to take from today.”

The fixture was played in front of a crowd of 420 spectators, a home record attendance this season.

Life under Connor Hoare and Callum Glen

Since the departure of Pat Suraci and Joe Lea, who both joined promotion challangers Gosport Borough. Horare, who was offered to rejoin the Boro’ in the summer, has been the man in the dug-out this season – has certainly done a remarkable Job.

The former Rams skipper has guided the club to a mid-table position, with the club initially being one of the favourites to be relegated. Petersfield enjoyed a decent FA Cup run, reaching the first qualifying round after beating Southern League side Bremerton Heath Harlequins in the process.

Former Moneyfields midfielder Glen was announced as player-assistant manager a few days after Suraci and Lea left, which certainly shocked Moneys boss Glenn Turnbull.

Glen made the most appearances for Moneys last season, who racked up over 100 appearances across his two spells at the club. He has made six starts for Petersfield.

Before Saturday’s game, Glen told Winol: “I have really enjoyed it, but you do not switch off – I was warned it was a 24/7, and it definitely is.

“It was something I have always wanted to do. If I did not do it now, I probably would have waited another five or six years. I was struggling with injury last season [at Moneyfields], so it came at the right time, I guess.

“I will not be going back to playing. I am happy what I did [as a player], I am happy I took the opportunity, it fitted in at the right time. “

What is next for the Rams?

Petersfield Town are back in action tonight in the Wessex Premier League as they travel to the Cams Alders, when they lock horns with Fareham Town – who have played nine games in 14 days.

One of those games being against the Rams, which ended in a 3-3 draw at Southdowns Builders Stadium.

The Creeksiders have picked up 13 points in those nine games – which has seen wins against league winners Moneyfields, Brockenhurst, Bournemouth and Hythe & Dibden.

A win for Petersfield would see them leapfrog Fareham, which could see the Rams finish 12th. But, for the Creeksiders they have the chance to finish ninth as they still have three games left to play.
